Smarter Stock Management. Measurable Results.
How the GV App is helping NHS hospitals save time, optimise stockholding and gain greater control over resources.
In healthcare, operational efficiency isn’t simply about reducing costs. It’s about making better use of resources, reducing unnecessary administration and ensuring essential products are available where and when they are needed.
For hospitals and healthcare facilities managing consumable products across multiple wards, departments and sites, maintaining accurate stock records and understanding how products are being used can be a significant operational challenge.
Yet many organisations still rely on a combination of manual records, spreadsheets and time-consuming reporting processes.
The GV App, developed by GV Health, brings stock management, usage monitoring and reporting together in one accessible digital system. Feedback from NHS hospitals shows the benefits can be measurable.

Evidence from NHS hospitals
Between October and December 2025, feedback assessments were carried out across seven hospitals within three NHS Trusts, exploring the GV App’s impact on operational efficiency, stock control, reporting and governance.
The findings show how digital stock management can improve everyday working practices and create opportunities to reduce costs. The system also gives healthcare organisations clearer information to support decisions about stock, resources and expenditure.
Giving valuable time back to healthcare teams
One of the clearest findings was the reduction in time spent managing stock and producing reports. For hospital store teams, recording stock movements, completing stocktakes and maintaining accurate records are essential but time-consuming tasks.
The GV App streamlines these processes, reducing duplicate paperwork and manual spreadsheet updates. Participating store teams reported saving 5 to 30 minutes each day, depending on site size and throughput.
For management teams, the benefits can be even greater. Regular usage and cost reports previously required significant manual collation. With structured information readily available, respondents reported saving between one hour and a full working day per reporting cycle.
With many sites producing several reports each month, these efficiencies can add up to substantial time savings over a year.
Less time spent on administration means more time available for operational priorities.
Reducing unnecessary stockholding and expenditure
Maintaining the right stock levels is a balancing act. Too much stock ties up budgets and valuable storage space; too little can create disruption and increase the risk of shortages.
Without reliable information on stock issues and consumption, purchasing decisions may depend heavily on estimates and historical ordering patterns. The GV App makes stock movements and usage trends easier to understand, helping teams identify opportunities to optimise inventory.
At participating hospitals with mature adoption, stockholding reductions of 10–25% were reported for selected product categories. Better visibility helped teams identify overstocking and align orders more closely with actual demand.
The assessment also identified cost-saving opportunities through more accurate usage information, with reported savings ranging from hundreds to thousands of pounds, depending on the site and circumstances.
From stock records to actionable insight
The value of the GV App extends beyond day-to-day stock transactions. It gives healthcare organisations a clearer understanding of how products are being distributed and used across their operations.
Rather than simply knowing how much stock has been purchased, managers can analyse recorded issues and usage at ward, department and site level. This helps teams to:
- Compare usage across departments and reporting periods.
- Spot unusual consumption patterns or potential over-issuing.
- Make better-informed purchasing and replenishment decisions.
- Respond faster to Trust requests for stock, usage and cost data.
- Identify discrepancies through clearer records and audit trails.
For NHS Trusts and facilities management providers, this level of visibility can support more informed decisions and more transparent contract performance reporting.
Better data supports better decisions — creating opportunities to reduce costs, limit waste and improve performance.
Strengthening governance and accountability
Healthcare organisations face increasing expectations around financial accountability, reporting and value for money. Reliable records are particularly important when stock is distributed across multiple sites and managed by different teams.
Feedback from participating hospitals highlighted the GV App’s role in improving stock reconciliation, detecting discrepancies and providing accessible audit information.
Routine checks help highlight missing entries, unexpected movements and differences between recorded and physical inventory.
Several respondents indicated that reverting to manual processes would substantially increase administration and make it harder to maintain existing levels of oversight.
Simple technology for the people using it
Digital transformation delivers the greatest value when technology is straightforward to use and becomes part of normal working practice.
Across the participating hospitals, users commonly rated the GV App 4 or 5 out of 5 for ease of use. Feedback highlighted intuitive processes, better access to stock information and easier transaction management compared with previous systems.
The assessment also showed that sites making fuller use of the system achieved the strongest results, underlining the importance of effective implementation, training and continued engagement.
Supporting a smarter, more connected healthcare environment
The challenges described by these hospitals are not unique to acute care. Community healthcare facilities, clinics, multi-site organisations and facilities management providers face similar pressures to manage expenditure, improve productivity and understand resource use.
Although outcomes will depend on local processes and adoption, the NHS hospital findings illustrate the potential of a more connected approach to consumables management across wider healthcare.
The GV App reflects GV Health’s commitment to combining products, services and technology to help healthcare organisations work more efficiently.
Effective supply is not simply about delivering products. It’s about helping customers understand, manage and optimise how those products are used.

About the evidence:
Results reflect feedback assessments carried out between October and December 2025 across seven hospitals within three NHS Trusts, as detailed in GV App – Demonstrated Benefits Across NHS Hospital Trusts. Outcomes vary by site, local processes and adoption level. The 10–25% stockholding reduction relates to selected product categories, not all stock.
