The Future of Sharps Disposal
Being part of a healthcare industry that continuously develops to protect patient health, we also have a duty to protect our planet in doing so.
NHS England reported over 47 million COVID vaccinations were administered over 2020-2021, accumulating vast amounts of waste needing to be disposed of in single-use plastic Sharps boxes.
With goals for a Net Zero NHS, the race to more sustainable alternatives has never been faster.
GV Health have tirelessly researched and developed for over 2 years, leveraging our expertise in waste management and sustainability, to produce a more sustainable alternative to Sharps disposal.
The Need for Non-Plastic
Waste disposal in makes up a large portion of carbon emissions within the Healthcare industry. The requirement to incinerate hazardous waste makes it incredibly challenging to tackle reduction of carbon emissions.
With Sharps boxes used from Acute, to Primary care and even personal use, evolving how we approach disposal could make a significant impact.
Upon incineration, conventional plastic Sharps bins release generate concerning amounts of toxic gases including fossil carbon and carbon monoxide, both highly damaging to our environment.
Our cardboard Sharps box releases biogenic carbon upon incineration which is absorbed via plants through photosynthesis. This reduces our net release of carbon, making it a more sustainable alternative.
- First non-plastic sharps box available on the UK NHS
- 85% less space for storage & transport vs. traditional plastic sharps box
- 20% reduction on transport weight per unit vs. traditional plastic sharps box
- 50% reduction in manufacturing Carbon Footprint when compared to virgin single use plastic sharps boxes, and over 38% reduction when compared to sharps boxes made from recycled plastic
- Contributes to a circular economy
- Unique leak prevention system
- Smart wall mount attachment
- Greater contribution to plastic waste
- Poor use of limited storage facilities
- Less bins per pallet increasing carbon emissions associated with transport
- Produces fossil carbons upon incineration which are toxic to the environment
ISO and ADR tested
Having passed ADR testing and meeting requirements for ISO 23907-1, our pioneering Sharps box is approved for the safe disposal of hazardous & Sharps waste.
- Material integrity tested via puncture tests
- Leak-tested to ensure safety and containment of accidental leftover liquids
- Safe to be transported under ADR
Patent-Pending Technology
Containing our patent-pending two part absorbent system comprised of a barrier and absorbent, our Life Protected Sharps Box is capable of containing small amounts liquids left over from syringes.
Developed with renewable biopolymers, this sustainable technology has been designed to protect the integrity of the box and maximise safety for users with as little environmental impact as possible.
Made with Ethically Sourced FSC® Cardboard
GV Health’s in-house custom developed cardboard composition ensures its unparalleled strength and integrity, making it a robust and reliable alternative to plastic.
Made from 100% FSC® sourced cardboard, the material of our box is ethically sourced, keeping protection our environment and resources at the heart of our innovation.
Flat-packed: Optimised Storage & Logistics
Our flat-packed design significantly enhances transportation and storage efficiency.
Ideal for hospitals, GPs, Dentists and Clinics, GV Health’s Sharps boxes take up a fraction of the space of plastic alternatives resulting improved delivery efficiency with more boxes per order.
Printed with clear, easy-to-follow assembly and usage instructions, boxes can be assembled on-site in under a minute when needed, allowing greater stock holding on-site.
Logistically, our flat-packed design allows for more Sharps boxes per pallet delivery, subsequently reducing associated carbon footprint, cost, and packaging per delivery.
Smart outer pack case
15 flat-pack Sharps Boxes per pack case allows for smart stacking for bulk pallet shipping and easy parcel size delivery to smaller individual healthcare providers.
Security & Safety Mechanisms
- Our unique closure system allows for secure containment of sharps even when temporarily closed.
- Permanently close using our supplied cable ties to avoid overfilling and securely-locked permanent closure.
- Clear, illustrated assembly and usage instructions, with numbered flaps to support box assembly.
- Custom designed, stainless steel reusable metal hook for affixing Sharps boxes to walls.
Smart Wall Mount System
The Smart Wall Mount System is fast and easy to secure with a custom adhesive that holds in place on any surface. Can also be easily removed via release mechanism without leaving marks.
