London, 27 January 2020: GV Health is pleased to announce the launch of the all-new range of Polycare compostable healthcare waste bags and aprons.
Sustainability is high on the list of concerns for healthcare providers. The rapid decline of off-shoring international healthcare waste since China, Malaysia and other countries banned imports of foreign waste has forced many healthcare providers to overhaul their waste disposal processes. With global awareness of plastic waste at an all-time high and increased government regulation of healthcare and plastic waste, the demand for biodegradable and compostable healthcare aprons and waste bags is rapidly increasing.
GV Health is a world leader in sustainable solutions for healthcare waste. First introduced over 3 years ago, Polycare biodegradable healthcare aprons and healthcare waste bags are well established in the UK’s NHS and private healthcare sectors.
New Polycare Compostable healthcare waste bags and aprons take sustainability to the next level. Compostable bags are made of natural plant starch derived from sugars, oils and other compounds contained in renewable feed stocks. This can be converted into chemicals and polymers using conversion processes similar to those of traditional polythene and produces no toxic residues or by-products.
Compostable bags break down readily in a composting system through microbial activity to form plant compost. A bag, liner or apron made from 100% compostable materials and bio-plastics can be broken down completely and metabolised by micro-organisms such as bacteria and fungi, helping to return nutrients to the earth.
Compostable plastic used for packaging, waste bags and aprons is controlled by UK and European standard BS EN13432. Products must be converted into water, CO2, and biomass under normal composting conditions at a rate comparable to that of cellulose. Polycare compostable healthcare waste bags and healthcare aprons meet BS EN13432 standards.
New Polycare healthcare waste bags and aprons have been developed in the UK by our market-leading research team and are exclusively manufactured in our own facilities. Four different sizes of bag and a one-size-fits-all apron will initially be available with additional bags and aprons being progressively added to the range through 2020. Compostable bags and aprons are available alongside GV Health’s existing range of Polycare biodegradable bags and aprons.
The world premiere of the Polycare compostable range took place at Arab Health 2020 with supplies available to order now for delivery in Q1 2020.
