GV Health’s Life Protected Cleaner (LPC) awarded Highly Commended in Innovative Product of the Year category at Cleaning Excellence Awards 2024
GV Health’s newly developed Life Protected Cleaner (LPC) has been awarded Highly Commended status in the Innovative Product of the Year category at the prestigious Cleaning Excellence Awards 2024.
This recognition firmly positions LPC as the highest-rated chemical cleaning entry in its award category, building on the traction that LPC has gained since launching in September 2024. LPC’s innovative design delivers unparalleled cleaning performance, and its unique form factor enables a range of benefits over traditional cleaning products across areas as diverse as operational efficiency, ease of use, logistics, and sustainability.
These benefits were proven during field tries carried out by leading FM service provider Serco, which has endorsed LPC and adopted the solution as a replacement for 33 cleaning products, including some of the most well-known brands in the industry.
Caroline Fennessy, FM Specialist (Cleaning) said that LPC’s combination of superior cleaning performance, ease of use, sustainability, and cost efficiency puts it ahead of competitors in the cleaning industry.
Serco is now using LPC across several sectors including hospitals, prisons, hospitality and leisure, underlining the potential and versatility of this technology.
Innovation
As noted by Fennessy following Serco’s trial of LPC: “The dissolvable sheet is a game changer in terms of chemical dosing. It simplifies the process, reducing the risk of over- or under-dosing.”
LPC rethinks how cleaning solutions are delivered, taking the form of a soluble sheet that rapidly dissolves in water to form a highly effective cleaning solution. This innovative form factor eliminates the need for cumbersome pre-mixed liquid cleaners or complicated dosing equipment – each layer is divided into pre-perforated sheets which can easily be separated by hand then added directly to a bottle or bucket of water, removing the need for manual or automated dosing. This reduces waste and allows LPC to be integrated seamlessly into existing cleaning routines.
This user-friendly approach reduces the risk of error, and LPC’s smart, intuitive design means workers require only minimal upfront training. The product’s low hazard formula helps to safeguard operatives, reducing PPE requirements and risk during preparation and use, and since LPC is a solid rather than a liquid, the risk of leaks or spills is eliminated.
Compared to effervescent solid products, LPC can reduce chemical usage by up to 50%, achieving more effective cleaning to improve hygiene standards across a wider range of surfaces and environments.
Cost Savings and Operational Efficiency (Smarter)
“The cleaner was far more effective at removing soil than our previous products, and the ability to store significantly more chemical will ensure that we can avoid supply chain issues in the future”, notes Fennessy.
LPC’s reduced weight and space requirements provide a significant impact on operational efficiency, especially in terms of storage and transport. The product’s solid form means it requires 77% less storage space compared to liquid cleaners, allowing businesses to store up to four times as much product in the same area.
Additionally, LPC’s four-year shelf-life is double that of a typical liquid pre-concentrate cleaner. This reduces the frequency of restocking and minimizes the risk of supply shortages, allowing businesses to realise substantial cost savings.
Dace Strele, Serco’s Store Personnel at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is amazing how little space LPC takes us in our storeroom, and the volume we get in each case means I am having to order much less frequently”.
LPC is also around 95% lighter than liquid cleaners, making it far easier to handle and transport. This lighter weight translates to significantly reduced transport costs.
Sustainability at the Core (Sustainability)
Beyond cost savings, LPC has been designed with sustainability at its core. Its lightweight form reduces the carbon footprint of transportation and storage by 77%, helping businesses cut down on CO2 emissions.
LPC’s packaging builds on this impact, using cardboard instead of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to reduce plastic waste by 34% by weight and cutting its overall carbon footprint by 82.4% compared to traditional liquid pre-concentrate cleaners.
“LPC’s innovative approach has made cleaning more efficient and environmentally responsible, addressing the growing demand for green alternatives in commercial and institutional settings”, said Fennessy.
GV Health has taken a holistic approach to sustainability throughout the development of LPC, addressing each stage of the product lifecycle to create a solution that reduces waste and transportation emissions, as well as alleviating pressures on internal waste management systems.
Superior Cleaning Performance (Performance)
LPC is based on GV Health’s Water Soluble Matrix (WSM) technology platform. A key problem with solid, water-soluble cleaning products is their slow rate of dissolution in water, as this impacts both process and labour time.
GV Health’s team of senior chemists drew on their collective 40+ years of industry experience to develop a fast-dissolving solid soluble solution that became LPC, as well as developing a new test method for measuring the performance of surface cleaning products, since there was no standard recognised by the industry.
By taking this data-led approach to development, GV Health has created a cleaner that outperforms industry-leading pre-concentrates by 20% when it comes to removing organic residues from hard surfaces. In addition, LPC leaves minimal residue behind, maintaining surface aesthetics.
The Future of Cleaning
As LPC’s reputation builds, GV Health will continue to innovate with the goal of reshaping the future of cleaning products. By combining cutting-edge science with a deep understanding of industry needs, GV Health has developed a cleaner that offers excellent results, reduces waste, and helps organisations operate more sustainably.
